Public Liability Insurance

The Shropshire FA are pleased to confirm that UKGlobal (formerly COBRA Corporate Solutions) will continue to provide the compulsory Public (General) Liability Insurance cover under the CLUB COVER brand.

The cover continues to apply to our affiliated Clubs, registered Referees of the association and also ‘stand-in’ Referees. In addition Leagues can also purchase this cover.



The policy also includes as standard Professional Indemnity and Directors & Officers liability with a £10m limit of indemnity.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO THE HANDLING OF PUBLIC LIABILITYCLAIMS



In 2013 the Government instigated a review of civil litigation in an attempt to curtail the emergence of a claims culture and associated excess in legal costs.



This has led to changes in the ways that Public Liability claims will be handled in the future.



It is hoped that the resulting savings to the insurers relating to avoidable litigation and a reduction in certain legal costs can ultimately be passed on to the clients through lower premiums.



With effect all Public Liability claims valued between £1,000 and £25,000 need to be submitted by a claimant’s solicitor via an electronic portal. The time taken to process claims will be reduced by almost half from up to 135 working days down to 75 working days. If time scales are not met, claimant’s have the opportunity to claim for increased legal costs.



In the case of an incident please ensure the following actions are adhered to:

• Ensure all accidents/injuries are recorded promptly.

• All new claims should be notified directly to UKGlobal within one working day of receipt.

• New claims must then be acknowledged within one working day of receipt by your insurers.

• When notifying a claim please provide points of contact for investigation purposes.

• Respond promptly to request for information. Wages information must be sent within 20 days of admission of liability.

• Ensure all documentation is entirely factual without conjecture when dealing with an investigation and gathering evidence.
