Lionesses are coming to Shropshire to play Belgium U23

England WU23 v Belgium WU23

YOUNG LIONESSES SET FOR SHREWSBURY

England WU23s will welcome Belgium to the home of Shrewsbury Town on Monday 25 September.

The squad will be led by new coach Emma Coates, after her appointment earlier this year following her time in charge of England WU19s. Before the Belgium match, which kicks off at 7pm, the Young Lionesses will begin the 2023-24 campaign away in Norway on Thursday 21 September.

Tickets for the match at the Croud Meadow are priced at £5 for adults and £1 for concessions (65+ and 18 & under).

Coates said: “We are looking forward to this fixture and grateful to Shrewsbury for hosting us.

“It has been a tremendous summer for our seniors in Australia, some of whom came through our WU23s, and we hope as many people as possible will come out and support the next generation.

“I am sure our young players will be excited by the game and the chance to follow in the Lionesses’ footsteps. Matches like this are vital for their development, both in their club and international careers.

“We are well supported by Sarina Wiegman and our technical director Kay Cossington. They understand just how important the player pathway is through to the seniors. We have a full programme of games coming up this season and every camp together will be an important chance for the players to show what they can do.”

The Young Lionesses are no strangers to the Young Flames, with the teams having met twice last season. A 4-1 home win in Tranmere in February was followed by a goalless draw in Genk in April. Among those with senior caps to have featured in the WU23s last season were Katie Robinson, Jess Park, Lucy Parker, Maya Le Tissier and Ebony Salmon.
