Thinking of becoming a Referee

    •
Thinking of becoming a referee? Anyone over the age of 14 can complete the course. But the game doesn’t just need young referees – plenty of players who are in the twilight of their football years have also enrolled on one of our courses to continue involvement in the game… it’s never too late. It is an excellent time to Get Into Refereeing as there are more opportunities with the various courses on offer.

If you are interested in any form of the referees course, you should register your interest via the attached Referee Course Interest Form.

Please note: If you do not referee a minimum of five matches following completion of the course, you will not be a fully qualified referee. It is compulsory to referee five matches of 11 vs 11 football (or 9 vs 9 football including the offside law). It is important to note that if you enrol on the FA Referees Course you will be expected to referee on a league affiliated to the Shropshire FA in order to complete your five matches.

As of the 2015-16 season courses will ensure candidates are registered on the correct course and are kept local. All of our courses are now arranged in-line with demand for a course of football that is best suited to their appropriate requirements as it is important the candidate is on the right course. Each course has a minimum requirement of ten candidates in order for it to proceed as they are practical based and this is for sufficient interaction amongst the candidates

Once we have received your Referee Interest Form we will keep you fully up-to-date with details of appropriate forthcoming courses. In addition, we will invite you along to a ‘Get Into Refereeing’ evening, which will offer a further insight into the courses we offer as well as outlining the benefits and commitments of refereeing, leaving you best placed to proceed with enrolling on the correct course. It is entirely up to you which type of football you officiate on.

Once qualified it is up to you how far you would like to progress, be it at a local Saturday or Sunday league standard or through the levels into semi-professional football and the professional game. For more information on courses, or on becoming a referee please contact Jamie James, Referee Development Officer, Email jamie.james@shropshirefa.com or telephone 01743 362769
