Putting Shropshire Girls Football on the Map

A young football team from Shropshire have gone the distance with the best after finishing runners up in The 2018 FA Futsal National Finals.

Their journey started back in January when they were one of eighteen teams to enter the local Winter Futsal Programme run by the Shropshire FA and Shropshire Girls & Women’s Football League. A superb eight week programme of fixtures followed where they found themselves qualifying for the Regional Finals after a victory in the final on penalties.

On to the Regional Finals held at Wolverhampton University in May brought a new challenge to the girls from Shropshire. Facing a team they’ve never met before in a best of three. Another nail biting event but fully enjoyable for the SAHA girls as they drove home with back to back victories qualifying them for The FA Futsal National Finals.

Sunday 24th June – FA Futsal National Finals Day, the day SAHA Galaxy Girls put their name in history as not only making it this far but to the Final of the Nationals. A fantastic day for a fantastic team.

Speaking on behalf of the Shropshire Girls & Women’s Football League, Fixtures Secretary Darren Stephenson “It’s such a fantastic achievement for Paul and all the girls involved at SAHA Galaxy. Watching their development and confidence within football grow from strength to strength over the weeks was a joy to watch. Their journey through the Futsal for 2018 is a credit to all the players for their hard work, Paul for his coaching and the parents for their support – a real team effort!"

Eve Bailey, Shropshire FA added “A huge congratulations to SAHA Galaxy in qualifying in each round to make the National Futsal Finals, a fantastic achievement for the club and Shropshire!  Girls Football in this County is continuing to grow and it is stories like this that we need to raise the profile and celebrate the success of girls football in Shropshire.  Special thanks must go to The Shropshire Girls & Women’s League and the clubs involved who provided the girls with the opportunity to take part in the County Futsal qualifiers throughout all of the age groups”
