You can pay by booking on line with credit/debit card or payment by cheque, postal order, and cash in person are accepted.

• Can I pay by an invoice?

No, due to lots of issues with chasing payment, non payment and late payment.

Only Clubs and league’s can be invoiced

• Can I pay on the day?


• Do I have to attend all dates of the given course?

Yes, please note before applying non attendance of any module means you will not pass the course you are registered on. (Unless you already have a valid FA Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid certificate’.

• Can I pay in installments?


• Can I save a place on a given course?

No, we operate a first come, first served basis. Application forms and booking on line is the only way to secure your place on the course.

• What is a FAN No?

Your FAN is your unique record which holds all your qualifications against it and allows you to progress through the coaching pathway, it is also your Log in or username for booking online courses and member services.

• What is my FAN No?

Not every will have a FAN no, if you have done a referee, coaching course, safeguarding children workshop, emergency aid workshop or a player of an affiliated club, then you may already have a FAN No. to find out please visit The FAN Finder page

• When will I receive my certificate?

Level 1 – up to 8 weeks from the date of assessment

Emergency Aid/Safeguarding Children – 6 weeks from workshop date

• Who do I contact for my certificate?

• Do I have to do the level 1?

No, there are three ways for you to move straight onto a level 2:

  • Coach for 2 years or more in a club/school/community setting
  • You have a junior team managers course (pre level 1)
  • Played the game at a senior level (non-league and above)

• Why do I need FA qualifications?

Having an FA qualification is an indication that you have reached a recognised level of competence and provides a degree of comfort and reassurance for parents whose children you coach.  Having minimum qualifications is a requirement for clubs aspiring to reach Charter Standard and beyond.

• What will I get out of a course?

Coaching courses will extend your knowledge of technical detail and of effective teaching methodologies.  Feedback from candidates attending SFA run courses indicates that it is a thoroughly enjoyable learning experience.

• Why are there so many courses?

It is important that all those connected with serving the game – coaches, referees, physiotherapists and administrators have access to courses that improve their effectiveness.

• What is the FA Licensed Coaches Club?

The FA Licensed Coaches’ Club replaced the Football Association Coaches’ Association in August 2011. The aim is to raise the profile of coaching and to provide the same type of training and development that one would expect to see in other professions.
